The Writers' Strike: Still in Reruns

This image shows strength and unity. It shows that the writers involved in the strike are standing strong and still working for their cause. The image shows many determined-looking people gathered together; those who will not budge until they get what they want.
The up-raised fist at the front of the image suggests strength. It alludes to fighting and standing up for a joint belief.
Thus, the viewer of the image is led to believe in the writers' strength and determination.

Yes, I think the disembodied fist may suggest that what it represents is more important than the individual to which it belongs - what do you think?

I think that's true.

If it actually showed the person raising his fist I don't think the picture would have the same effect.

By itself, the fist represents a symbol of power and strength. It's more effective this way, because it sums up the support for the strike without anything else drawing attention away.
